NELI VAZQUEZ ROWLAND INVITED TO SPEAK AT VETERAN RECOVERY AND REHABILITATION PANEL DISCUSSION
April 3, 2018 (Chicago, IL)—A Safe Haven President and Co-Founder Neli Vazquez Rowland was invited to speak at The Boeing Company’s Spring Company Non Profit Partner Convening for a panel on Veteran Recovery and Rehabilitation. The event was moderated by Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Erica Jeffries; there were about 100 people in attendance along with three other panelists from nonprofit organizations serving veterans, and 50 nonprofits were represented in total.
“Boeing is honored to partner with these organizations as we work to support veterans and their families with impactful services to support recovery and rehabilitation. Our focus is designed to support hands-on programs tackling veteran suicide, moral injury, and PTSD.. Through the right partnerships we believe that these efforts will save lives by reaching those with visible and invisible wounds.” – The Boeing Company
Neli Vazquez Rowland spoke about topics such as suicide risk factors for veterans in comparison with the civilian population, comparison of men’s and women’s suicide numbers in the veteran population, and A Safe Haven’s self-help techniques encouraging veterans to create protective factors for self-care and preservation.
The Boeing Company provided A Safe Haven with a grant for an initiative appropriately named R.I.S.E. (Resources-Information-Support-Empowerment) Veteran’s Initiative, which will provide mental health assessments, case management, and therapeutic individual and group counseling to veterans and their families throughout the Chicagoland area in November 2017.
