The 2016 Chicago Auto Show Supports A Safe Haven Foundation and Nation’s largest Canned Food Drive To Help Drive Out Hunger & Homelessness

Auto2016

Chicago, IL, February 19, 2016 – A Safe Haven Foundation was honored to once again serve as the exclusive beneficiary of the 2016 Chicago Auto Show’s annual Canned Food Drive. Grateful for the beautiful weather, Chicagoans came out in record numbers to support the event; and as a result A Safe Haven collected over 10 TONS of canned food!

Non-perishable canned goods collected are distributed across A Safe Haven’s network of 40 locations in Chicago and surrounding communities including ASHF’s Community Food Pantry, which provides at least 200 North Lawndale families in-need with weekly groceries. Likewise, food is used in A Safe Haven‘s Culinary Institute Kitchen, which feeds nearly 5,000 Homeless residents annually at ASHF’s interim housing facility, and contributes to over 500,000 healthy meals served each year.

“We at A Safe Haven Foundation are truly privileged to once again have participated in the Chicago Auto Show-one of our City’s and the Auto Industry’s most anticipated annual events. This was our 19th year participating in this impactful tradition and every year, we at A Safe Haven Foundation remain extremely grateful to the generosity of the people of Chicago! In the state of Illinois more than 1 in 6 individuals suffer from food insecurity associated with poverty, and as much as 60% of families seeking hunger alleviation indicate having to choose between putting food on the table, and paying their rent. The donations we receive are essential to helping us to end the reality of food insecurity, poverty and homelessness in Chicago and across the state of Illinois” Said Neli Vazquez Rowland, President and Co-Founder of A Safe Haven Foundation.

A Safe Haven extends a heartfelt thank you to The Chicago Auto Show Association; members from ASHF Advisory Board and to the ASHF residents who volunteered their time and efforts to collect cans from hundreds of thousands of donors at the Chicago Auto Show. A Safe Haven is grateful to the sponsors of the Chicago Auto Show Food Drive, including the Chicago Auto Show, the new-car dealers of the Chicago Automobile Trade Association, Chevy Drives Chicago and Alan Josephsen Co. Inc.  A Safe Haven especially thanks the nearly 100 corporate Volunteers from Baxter, MARS, ComEd, BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois and Brilliant who signed up to assist A Safe Haven to help End Hunger.
