A Safe Haven on ABC 7 Windy City Live

May 7, 2014 Chicago, IL. A Safe Haven Foundation was featured on ABC 7 on Windy City Live with hosts Ryan Chiaverini and Val Warner in a segment entitled, “Homeless in Chicago”. The segment features stories and testimonials from three homeless individuals, currently residing at A Safe Haven, and today they are hopeful. The two-part segment also introduces the Windy City Live in-person and television audience to the non-profit and related social business enterprises, President and Co-founder Neli Vazquez-Rowland.

“A Safe Haven’s innovative and best practice program model provides housing and intensive supportive services, which helps people in need pursue their fullest potential, and achieve self-sufficiency in Chicago, since 1994. Today, A Safe Haven serves nearly 5,000 people annually. Much like the A Safe Haven Landscaping Social Enterprise which provides jobs and maintains many of Chicago’s beautiful outdoor floral displays; work to restore the lives of the homeless and both are considered Chicago’s ‘best kept secrets’ by many Chicagoans and tourists alike. We are grateful to ABC 7 and Windy City Live for the opportunity to share the incredible stories of real people residing at A Safe Haven. I believe that these stories that were generously shared today will shatter the perceptions of thousands of people of what homelessness looks like in our society today. Hopefully, we not only were able to raise awareness around homelessness; we hope we were able to inspire people to consider getting involved, and joining us by supporting our efforts to addressing the root causes, and ending homelessness for thousands of people and neighbors in need — who are right in our own back yard” says Neli Vazquez-Rowland.
