A Safe Haven Foundation Announces 7th Annual 5K RUN! To End Homelessness!
Chicago, IL—May 25, 2017—A Safe Haven is proud to announce our 7th annual 5K RUN! To End Homelessness on July 15, 2017, at Chicago’s beautiful Montrose Harbor. The 5K will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be immediately followed by a Kids’ FUN RUN, open to all children 12 and under. All are welcomed and invited to gather family and friends as we stand, walk, and run together to support our neighbors in need!
A Safe Haven has garnered support from a growing list of honorary host committee members & sponsors throughout the Chicagoland area. Our Annual 5k RUN! is our largest fundraising event, growing by leaps and bounds each year. As an anchor human service organization, A Safe Haven provides services and housing for an average of 5,000 people in need each year to provide housing, treatment, education, and job training services to enable our clients to escape the cycle of homelessness and achieve sustainable self-sufficiency. Each and every dollar we raise from the 5K RUN! will go towards supporting these programs.
“Funding to support the homeless in the State of Illinois has been declining for years. It’s at times like these that we need to acknowledge our Country’s decades of neglect and broken systems that too often have let families in crisis down. Today, it is no coincidence that the resulting impact is being felt and seen in the form of the widespread and generational blight, unemployment, crime and despair that exists in poverty stricken communities, even in neighborhoods that were once thought immune to the perils and consequences of long-term poverty. I’m incredibly grateful for all of the support we’ve received for the 7th Annual 5K RUN! To End Homelessness. Supporting and giving to A Safe Haven is a gift to hundreds of mothers, children, families and veterans: there is nothing we want more than to help each and every one of them succeed. A Safe Haven was founded with the goal of breaking the cycle of poverty, and each year I am humbled by just how many are willing to stand in solidarity with that goal. The amazing teams and individual participants, corporate and political sponsors, and those on the ground promoting our event enable us to continue raising awareness and providing support to those in need,” states Neli Vazquez Rowland, President.
