“It is truly humbling to garner the support of so many honorable elected officials so many of whom have been with us to support the cause and A Safe Haven, since the beginning.. Each year, the 5K RUN! To End Homelessness is our largest event, bringing together media, corporate and civic leaders, associations, chambers, elected officials, athletes, A Safe Haven alumni, and supporters of our mission and model from across the State of Illinois. Despite the focus on crime and violence, we know that poverty and homelessness are real underlying and solvable issues for the vast majority of people living in the midst of social and economic unrest. We have proven with both anecdotal and empirical data that over time that by healing and stabilizing individuals and families with barriers to mainstreaming, that we can get people back on track to becoming positive members of society. By standing in solidarity, and walking and running shoulder to shoulder with us, our elected officials are demonstrating that they are mutually committed to making a lasting positive impact in the lives of those in crisis. Thank you so much to the leaders and runners alike for joining the fight to end homelessness! We look forward to running the most important campaign for humanity alongside them on race day,” Neli Vazquez Rowland, President of A Safe Haven.
