At A Safe Haven Foundation, we believe Housing is Healthcare. Stable housing is the first step toward helping individuals and families overcome homelessness, poverty, and other barriers to independence.

We offer a wide range of housing options—including emergency, transitional, permanent supportive, senior, veteran, and affordable housing—through a network of more than 40 locations across Chicagoland, the Southwest Suburbs, and Northwest Indiana. Clients also have access to recovery housing through trusted partners aligned with our continuum of care.

Rooted in the Housing First philosophy, we recognize that housing is a basic human right—and that lasting change begins with a safe place to call home.

As an equal opportunity housing provider, ASHF offers housing opportunities regardless of race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, physical or mental disability, familial status, or any other classification protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. Our programs are inclusive and accessible to all, including individuals with justice involvement, mental health or physical challenges, past evictions, or complex housing histories. We proudly serve diverse populations, including LGBTQIA+ and undocumented individuals, families, and youth.

Emergency & Transitional Housing
View of a large facility with a green lawn and wide sidewalk leading up to the entrance

The process of rebuilding and healing the root causes of homelessness begins with providing shelter, food, and other wrap-around services, all provided at our transitional housing headquarters.

Here, we can best support people experiencing homelessness without disrupting treatment or support, and work towards connecting them with viable permanent housing options. Our transitional housing facility holds 406 beds, separated by sex, and with families receiving their own rooms. The location of this facility on our main campus keeps A Safe Haven’s leadership near to the ground, allowing us to keep a finger on the pulse of the community’s needs in real time.
