Maintenance Engineer 

Position Title Maintenance Engineer
Reports To Maintenance Engineering Supervisor
FLSA Status Non-Exempt
Summary This individual will perform regular and preventative maintenance for all of the organization’s facilities and equipment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform ongoing preventative maintenance and monitoring activities on equipment such as air handlers, refrigeration, and air conditioning units, high- and low-pressure steam systems and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Record meter and gauge readings, clean coils, and oils motors, and replace bels, filters, switches, gauges, and motors.
  • Perform more complex work based upon experience, training, and license/certification. Assist skilled carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and other senior maintenance professionals in performing more complex maintenance, repair, and construction activities.
  • May supervise a small number of semiskilled workers.
  • Paint buildings and equipment, patch/plaster walls, and repair/replace tiles and other wall coverings.
  • Repair and construct wood and metal equipment, furniture, doors, windows, shelves, floors, security screens and other fixtures.
  • Open stopped sewage and drain lines; replace/repair faucets, toilets, sinks, valves, water lines and other plumbing equipment and fixtures.
  • Repair and replace electrical outlets, light fixtures, switches, and other controls.
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner and maintain accurate and timely records of maintenance/jobs performed.
  • Regularly conduct walk through inspections of assigned facilities. Maintain strong of knowledge of layout, structure, and continual functioning of all building systems.
  • Evaluate and obtain necessary parts for repairs and/or retrofit for older equipment. Maintain inventory and order supplies, replacement parts, tools and equipment as needed. Clean work area, tools, machines, and equipment.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

To perform the job successfully, applicants should demonstrate the following skills.

  • Intermediate knowledge of standard tools and practices of the various trades such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting carpentry and plastering.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the mechanical and building trades.
  • Knowledge of (1) maintenance and equipment repair methods and (2) procedures to safely utilize hand tools and power tools while adhering to all safety precautions.
  • Ability to:
    • Perform semi-skilled and skilled work in a variety of mechanical and building trades.
    • Effectively communicate with contacts. clients, vendors, and other partners.
    • Perform duties with limited supervision and maintain a positive attitude when stressed.
    • Work in an environment with frequent periods of moderate to loud noise.
    • Perform operations using metric units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
    • Crawl into small spaces to conduct repairs and inspections and occasionally climb ladders to conduct repairs and inspections.
    • Stand and sit for long periods of time.
    • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Interpret and work from sketches, blueprints, plans, penciled layouts, and drawings.
    • Lift/maneuver up to 60 pounds.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education High School Diploma or GED required.
Certificates/Licenses Valid driver’s license required. Certification in one of the following disciplines is also required; HVAC, Electrical, and/or Plumbing.
Experience 5 or more years of semi-skilled experience in general maintenance work required.
