Chicago, IL – July 1, 2016: A Safe Haven Foundation (ASHF) is excited to announce the 2016 VIP 5K RUN! Kickoff party will honor America’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer Winner and Competition finalist Laura Bretan. The Kickoff event will take place Friday, July 8, 2016 at 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm at the Navy Pier. Laura Bretan will be presented with the first ever A Safe Haven “Voice of an Angel Award” for her dedication to helping the homeless and for sharing her God-given talents.

“I am absolutely delighted to be honoring Laura Bretan and her family at the 2016 5K Run! To End Homelessness VIP Kickoff Party. In the past, Laura sang the National Anthem at our Music Revolution to End Homelessness where some of Chicago’s top emerging, as well as legendary artists have lent their talents to support our cause. Laura has since blessed us by performing at almost every public fundraiser and private holiday event, including Christmas, Thanksgiving and Veterans Commemorative events that A Safe Haven has held in the last three years.  It has been an incredible honor to be a part of her journey and an honor to be there for her “Top Dog” win in NYC at the Apollo theater, where she surprised me by graciously and generously donating all of her ‘windfall’ to A Safe Haven Foundation, as well as being with her at the Chicago Bulls young artist competition and more. Her willingness to share her talent on behalf of those we serve is truly heartfelt and authentic.  There is definitely something special about her that always leaves our guests stunned, overwhelmed, and awestruck. On behalf of myself, and all of us at A Safe Haven, we are incredibly proud of her recent success on America’s Got Talent. She truly deserves the ‘Voice of an Angel Award,’ as one of the most generous and authentic people in the world making a difference for the cause of homelessness.  We are thrilled to have the opportunity to give such a worthy recipient of our A Safe Haven Inaugural ‘Voice of An Angel” award to her at this year’s VIP Kickoff party among our top sponsors and supporters for this year’s 5K event.” said Neli Vazquez Rowland, President of A Safe Haven.

“I’m so humbled and honored to win the A Safe Haven Inaugural “Voice of An Angel” Award and to be recognized for the two things I love to do – sing and give back.  When I met Neli, I had been asking my Mom, Rachel, to please find a place that would allow me to volunteer.  I specifically wanted to help the homeless. I could never have imagined that my voice could serve as a megaphone and an instrument to help raise awareness and support and also to inspire others to help the homeless.  I am just one example of how any one of us can use our own gifts to get involved, at no matter what age, to help out with a great cause. Since I’ve been involved with A Safe Haven, I have met many people whose lives have been truly transformed. It feels good to know that I am a part of that!  I believe that we can all bring light where there is darkness and we can all use our gifts and voices to help the needy to know that they are loved and accepted by God too” – Laura Bretan, Artist and 2016 America’s Got Talent ‘Golden Buzzer’ Winner and Finalist.
