Click below to learn more about each of the four pillars in our Employment & Education Program:
Each client engages in Academic and Professional instruction to ensure that they have the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in whatever field they choose to pursue.
Orientation & Assessment
Beginning with Orientation & Assessment, you will discover all the programs and services A Safe Haven offers in Employment & Education. You will learn about eligibility criteria, program expectations, and outcomes for each of our training programs and select the programs that you may be interested in including Culinary Arts, Custodial Engineering, Landscaping, or Welding. Completing the TABE assessment is essential for us to understand where each of our clients is at on an academic level and what support we need to connect them with along the way.
Following Orientation & Assessment, clients meet with their Opportunity Coach. Their coach will work with them from start to finish, providing support, feedback, and helping to connect clients with necessary resources as they pursue their goals. Once clients have built their individual pathway with the support of their coach, it’s time to get to work.
Employment Preparation Workshops (EPW)
EPW is a two week program where participants build the foundational skills necessary to succeed in the workforce. The curriculum focuses on three key areas: Finding a Job, Getting a Job, and Keeping a Job. Over the two weeks, participants will work on building a job search plan, creating a competitive resume, engaging in interviews, and building the soft skills that will allow them to successfully navigate the workplace. Our OSHA 10 Training is incorporated into EPW to ensure that all participants not only leave with the skills needed to be a strong employee, but have the knowledge necessary to keep them and their colleagues safe.
Adule Education and Literacy (AEL)
Clients come to A Safe Haven Foundation with a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and academic skills levels. Our goal is to ensure that each client is properly educated and prepared for whatever their chosen profession or goals may be. Our experienced educators provide clients with adult basic and adult secondary education to ensure they have a strong foundation in the reading and math skills necessary in the workplace. Our instructors work hard to incorporate applicable life skills into the classroom instruction to ensure that our clients are prepared for whatever comes their way.
For those individuals who want to go further, A Safe Haven Foundation provides additional support for those who want to attain their High-School Equivalency/GED. From additional classes, study support, and covering testing fees, A Safe Haven Foundation is committed to ensuring that each client is prepared and supported as their work towards their academic goals.
Administered by experienced industry professionals, our vocational training programs help to prepare clients for careers in specific fields by providing hands-on training and classroom support. Following the completion of their academic and professional instruction, clients can enroll into one of these paid training programs to start their journey towards a successful career!
Our goal is to ensure that each of our clients are connected to sustainable employment in their chosen field. Whether they completed a vocational training program or started looking for a job right after their academic and professional instruction, our team works to connect clients with employment opportunities that meet their needs and help them achieve their goals.
A Safe Haven Foundation maintains close relationships with employer partners, placement agencies, and other nonprofits across Chicagoland to help connect our clients with an employment opportunity that is right for them. Additionally, our Placement staff and Opportunity Coaches work with clients to help tailor resumes, prepare for interviews, and provide support as they navigate their job search.
We recognize that there is a lot more to professional success than a good resume and strong interview. That is why our team of Coaches, Instructors, and support staff are all trained to support clients as they navigate their instruction, training, and job search. Additionally, our Opportunity Coaches stay connected to clients for one year after they have been placed, helping to answer questions, provide resources, and navigate the challenges that come with new employment.
