A Safe Haven Veteran Village Ribbon Cutting Ceremony On Flag Day and US ARMY Birthday a Huge Success!

Melrose Park, IL, June 15 –  In honor of Flag Day and the US Army Birthday, on Tuesday June 14th, 2016, A Safe Haven hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Melrose Park Veteran Village. A Safe Haven first broke ground on Veteran’s Day, another fitting day to honor those that served our country, and Flag Day and the US Army Birthday offered another important day to recognize those who sacrificed so much for our freedom. Over 120 people attended the ceremony.  On hand were A Safe Haven’s leadership, Elected Officials, dignitaries, project partners and representatives from the media, including coverage from WBBM CBS and ABC 7.

The event was formally kicked off with the Flag Ceremony by the ‘Color Guard’ from the Village of Melrose Park Department of Homeland Security and National Anthem singer Elizabeth Gonzalez followed by an invocation given by A Safe Haven COO, Mark Mulroe. A Safe Haven’s Chief Executive Officer, Brian Rowland and Foundation President, Neli Vazquez Rowland,  the Mayor of Melrose Park, Ronald Serpico, Assistant Director of the IL Veterans Administration, Harry Sawyer and Brian Rowland’s Father, a decorated Korean War Veteran, Michael Rowland were all introduced and spoke to honor the occasion and to thank all partners and sponsors of the project. Special thanks to ASHF Advisory Board members, Jim Bassett, Jamil Bou-Saab, Dorothy DiMedio, and Norma Zambrano who also were in attendance to support the event.

After the official ceremony, food and refreshments were served courtesy of A Safe Haven Catering. All guests and community members joined in this celebratory event, along with military veterans, representing all wars from the community and were invited to the ‘open house’ to tour the beautifully and professionally appointed community center and several three bedroom housing units.  This project represents another important milestone for the leadership of A Safe Haven as their 40th related housing real estate development across the Chicagoland area.
