7th Annual 5k RUN! To End Homelessness Proves to be Monumental!

CHICAGO, IL (July 15, 2017)Today thousands of supporters from all over the State of Illinois took part in the 7th Annual 5K RUN! To End Homelessness that was held at Montrose Harbor along Chicago’s beautiful lakefront.

Veterans, volunteers, supporters, over 100 elected officials who served as Honorary Host Committee members, Co-chaired by Governor Bruce Rauner and Diana Rauner, from throughout the State of Illinois lent their support for the event.

The occasion was marked with the perfect weather that made it a great day for running conditions along the scenic route where individuals and teams competed for fastest time and most funds raised and other prestigious honors for the organization this year.

Official media sponsor, ABC7 Chicago’s Dionne Miller was on hand as the emcee for the morning and raced in the event. Whitney Reynolds, of PBS’ The Whitney Reynolds’ Show also lent her energy for the event by emceeing the Kids’ Fun Run race too! Also featured to sing the National Anthem was local Broadway 11 year old artist, Amaris Sanchez.

 

Voices from local Chicago Alderman included site host James Cappleman of the 46th Ward, Alderman Gilbert Villegas of the 36th Ward, Alderman Brian Hopkins of the 2nd Ward, Cook County Commissioner Dan Patlak and Governor Rauner gave way through their thoughts on why, now more than ever, supporting A Safe Haven Foundation’s 5K Run, as well as the programs at A Safe Haven Foundation are so important in the City of Chicago, Cook County and the State of Illinois.

 

“The 7th Annual 5K Run/Walk was the happiest place on Earth for all of us at A Safe Haven Foundation and most of all those who came out to support the cause today,” said Neli Vazquez-Rowland, President of A Safe Haven Foundation. “It was exciting to gather so many leaders, movers and doers to support a common cause of helping people in need get back to independence and self-sufficiency.”
